A general dentist provides both preventive and restorative services. Preventive services include tooth cleaning (hygiene), checking soft tissue, and screening for oral cancer and other potential problems. Restorative treatments include fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures, implants and more. Some of these services can be performed during a typical visit, while others require the use of a lab and may be completed over the course of more than one appointment. General dental care is provided to persons with disabilities within the School’s Personalized Care Suite.
During a typical general dentistry visit, patients can expect their student dentist to clean their teeth and evaluate the health of both the teeth and soft tissue. He or she will also screen for oral cancer, and ask if you have any particular concerns or discomfort that need to be addressed. If necessary, your student dentist will work to develop a treatment plan to be implemented over the course of your next visits.
Our patients are charged a reasonable fee to cover the operating costs and services of the clinic. In general, you can expect these fees to be lower than a private practice because we are a teaching clinic. However, you can have confidence that you are still being treated with the highest quality materials, techniques, and care.
